Triple Treats Candy

2.5 dozen
1 (11.5 ounce) bag Nestle chocolate chips
2 tsp. vegetable shortening
1 (14 ounce) bag of caramels
3 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. water
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans
Melt chocolate chips and vegetable shortening. Stir until morsels melt and mixture is smooth. (Double boiler works best.) Remove from heat. Pour half of the melted chocolate into an 8” foil lined, greased square pan. Spread evenly. Refrigerate 15 minutes until firm. Return remaining chocolate mixture to low heat. In a large saucepan combine caramels, butter, and water. Stir until caramels melt and the mixture is smooth. Stir in nuts until well blended. Pour into chocolate lined pan. Spread evenly. Refrigerate until tacky (about 15 minutes). Top with remaining melted chocolate; spread evenly to cover caramel mixture. Return to fridge and chill until firm, about 1 hour. Cut into 1×2” rectangles. Keep refrigerated.
