Peanut Butter Blossoms

4 dozen cookies
48 Hershey’s Kisses or chocolate stars
½ cup shortening
¾ cup peanut butter
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
2 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 ½ cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
Granulated sugar
Preheat oven to 375°. Remove wrappers from kisses. In a large bowl beat shortening and peanut butter until well blended. Add sugars and beat until light and fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla. Sift together flour baking soda and salt and gradually add to the peanut butter mixture. Shape dough into 1” balls. Roll in granulated sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately place a kiss on the top of each cookie pressing down to cookie cracks around the edges. Bake 1-2 minutes and remove from the oven. Remove from oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool.
